"Effective Flight Reviews For Older Pilots"
Flight reviews for older pilots need to assess how competent they are in terms of preflight planning; their decision making; their ability to acquire weather information to make go/no-go decisions; and their ability to understand the equipment they are using and its limitations. They should review aviation regulations that may have faded from their memory. The CFI should assess any physiological deficiencies that may affect the pilot’s performance
We should share an accurate briefing with the pilot and ask how things went for them and ask what the pilot thought of the flight. The pilot and the CFI should then create a plan to maintain and improve the pilot’s proficiency and promote flight safety.
Dr. Victor Vogel - Presenter
Dr. Vogel is a retired medical oncologist and a CFI, CFI-I, AGI and IGI. He has flown for more than 40 years and serves as a FAASTeam Representative for the Harrisburg, PA FSDO. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) and founder and president of Susquehanna STEM to the Skies, an educational public charity. It utilizes a fullmotion advanced aviation training device and STEM aviation camps to introduce high school and technical center youth to aviation as a career opportunity. He has a special interest in the physiological effects of aging on the safety of flight.
