DR. CAROLINA ANDERSON Teaching Slips and Skids
Many general aviation accidents have been as a result of a skidding turn from base to final. Slips on the other hand are benign and utilized during normal phases of fight, especially during crosswind landings. This presentation will provide recommendations on how flight instructors can help students maintain coordination during flight and avoid skids.
The presentation will elaborate on the differences between slips and skids from the aerodynamics standpoint, so flight instructors can better understand them; the presentation will also include an explanation of force diagrams, scenarios, comparisons, and best practices for flight instructors.
